Individual Therapy is the most common form of therapy in my practice. Regardless of what techniques or approaches are utilized, having a good therapeutic relationship is essential for positive change to occur. Healing is most likely to occur when one feels safe in an attentive, nurturing, and carefully attuned relationship.
While I will guide you to develop your hopes into clear, attainable treatment goals, I also feel it is important that there is no sense of a strict agenda in the therapy room. I invite clients of all ages to play an active role in identifying what they want and need to work on, and am flexible in providing a variety of approaches, many of which can be integrated together, to support progress.
More specifically, I have training in child-centered play therapy (CCPT), eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), solution-focused therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), emotional freedom technique (EFT/”Tapping”) , internal family systems (IFS), motivational interviewing (MI), and sandtray therapy. I also have extensive, specific training working with youth with problematic sexual behavior.
I am knowledgeable about mindfulness and relaxation techniques, problem-solving strategies, and communication styles. I consider incorporating more interpersonal biology and neuroscience into my practice very important, but a bit of an ongoing goal.
Most recently, I received training in cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), and will soon begin training in Theraplay. As there is always new and exciting research making its way into the field of mental health, I believe it is extremely important to go above and beyond what is required by my licensure in regards to continuing education.
